Katavothres

Description

Katavothres is one of Kefalonia’s most fascinating and unique natural phenomena, where seawater flows into underground fissures and disappears beneath the surface. This rare phenomenon has been widely studied and is considered exceptional worldwide.

What makes it even more remarkable is that the water travels underground across almost the entire island and reappears near Sami, forming a natural geological “circuit”. Old water mills can also be found on site, once powered by this flow, adding historical depth to the location.

Located just outside Argostoli, it is an ideal quick stop that combines nature, history and easy access in a striking coastal setting.
